Good Fortune? Or Just Luck?

I went to a night out at the dog track last night with my work colleagues, in a pre booked deal called the Six Pack Party Deal. It may not have been the best of days to go on this, being a Friday the 13th, but read on…

With this we got free entry, two free drinks, a free Tote Win and lucky dip Trio bet on any of the night’s races (see the betting guide for information on the types of bets you can place), and a luxurious Pie and Peas voucher for the cafeteria. I also took out just £10 to place bets with, just to keep the night that little bit interesting.

I started off by losing with my free bets, which made me feel like I wasn’t very good at it, but after a while I started itching for that ‘rush‘ again and placed some more bets. Temptation had taken me. I was a slave to the game. After placing a £1 bet and winning £3.90, I was hooked! But, I was in control, I limited myself to a maximum of £1 per bet and I started really concentrating on working out the odds on the winners.

A few races later, I had filled in my Pick-6 card, which was like a lottery ticket on choosing the 6 winners of races 6 through to 11, with a chance to win over £1,000. Since I’d never done this before, it took some thought into working out the winners, which I narrowed down to being the dog with the fastest history (shortest finish time) against runs (for experience) and history of placement (where a dog who wins first with a varied finish time history is likely to be one that acts as a race leader instead of running at its maximum speed all the time).

I paid my £1 for the Pick-6 card, and also placed £1 bets on my chosen winners for each race, to keep the fun coming.

Out of the 6 bets I placed, I lost the first (which made the Pick-6 card a loser) but won the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th races. So out of my 6 chosen winners, 4 of them won, bagging me a total of £13.50 and pushing me to an £8.50 total winnings for the night!

Overall I absolutely loved the night – I may have gone a bit crazy when I won those three in a row; I was on such a high!
